PUBLIC EDUCATION AND 4H PARTNERSHIP
Somerset Hills is partnering with Somerset County 4H Dog Clubs to encourage the growth of tomorrow’s dog fancy. SHKC members assist at 4H show handling and obedience training sessions. SHKC supports the NJ State 4H State Dog Show held every year at Rutgers University and Somerset and Hunterdon County 4H fairs held every August. SHKC is championing a Junior Steward Apprentice Program at the SHKC Dog Show, allowing teens to work with an experienced Ring Steward, and learn how to organize dogs and their handlers as they enter the ring, and as the judge awards the prizes.
LIBRARY PROGRAM Members of the Somerset Hills Kennel Club hold a Responsible Dog Ownership program every October at the Bernards Township Library, Basking Ridge, NJ. This annual event educates the public about how to be effective dog owners. Our members bring their dogs to meet children and their parents. We discuss all that goes into being a responsible dog owner –puppy training, feeding, grooming, exercising, vet visits, etc.. We also share the breed history of our pure bred dogs and discuss the AKC events that we participate in and are available to all dog owners. And of course we leave plenty of time for our dogs to get pets and hugs from everyone!

NURSING HOME VISITS
Members of the Somerset Hills Kennel Club also spend time making dedicated visits to local nursing homes, where residents welcome our club members and their dogs - often missing their own dogs, or reminiscing about their own cherished family pets. Members also enjoy the opportunity to share their service dogs experience, information about their breed and it's history, and of course, some of their favorite stories about their dogs!
PARADES
Somerset Hills Kennel Club Members can also be seen in Branchburg Community Fair events, and the local St. Patrick's Day Parade!
Club Vice President Nancy Weaver Smith demonstrates grooming at a 4h Dog club meeting.
Members shown here at Basking Ridge Public Library, sharing our club mission with the attending public.
