Club Objectives
From our Constitution:
a. To further the advancement of all breeds of purebred dogs;
b. To do all in its power to protect and advance the interest of all breeds of purebred dogs and encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows and obedience trials;
c. To conduct sanctioned matches, dog shows and obedience trials, and any other events for which the club is eligible under the rules and regulations of the American Kennel Club.
The History of SHKC
Since 1923, Somerset Hills Kennel Club has been an all-breed non-profit organization dedicated to advancing interest in purebred dogs through programs and activities every year, including the dog shows, FAST CAT and CAT coursing ability trials, agility, obedience, and rally.
SHKC conducts matches, meet the breed events at local libraries and partners with local youth groups through 4H.
The first Somerset Hills Kennel Club Show was held at the Far Hills Fairgrounds in 1923. The Club celebrates its 85th anniversary in 2021. Today, SHKC partners with Westchester and Tuxedo Park Kennel Clubs to form the North Branch Cluster Shows held at North Branch Park each September.
The Club presents a special Pee Wee dog handling segment of its conformation show for youngsters from ages five to nine to learn about showing dogs in the show ring. Members are extremely proud of the Club’s long history of promoting responsible dog ownership and the enjoyment.
